RACER’s F1 movie cameo | RACER

Date:

“OK. What would he want you to do?”

“Join a boy band?”

If you’ve caught the new F1 movie, you might have also caught a familiar publication making a cameo when the lead characters Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) and Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem) revisit their formative years as F1’s Next Big Things – and all the associated promise and potential – via a cover story on an early-1990s issue of RACER.

The hairstyles weren’t the only aspect of the cover that reflected the era they represented: the filmmakers’ attention to detail went all the way to ensuring that they used a period-correct RACER logo.

“I’d love that issue to complete my collection,” joked RACER editor-in-chief Laurence Foster. “I’m tempted to go down to the archive to see if I can find the transparencies from the Hayes/Cervantes photo shoot.”

RACER was not directly involved in the creation of the mock cover used in the film, but RACER’s founder, CEO and President Paul Pfanner said it is gratifying that the brand was chosen to help flesh out the story.

“This welcome inclusion in ‘F1’ was the result of our RACER team delivering a highly respected magazine for 33 years,” he said. We’ll all grateful to the F1 movie team for this creative use of RACER magazine in establishing the backstory of Sonny Hayes and Ruben Cervantes.”

Viewers with an eagle eye will spot a few appearances by the more familiar current RACER logo elsewhere in the film, too.

We’ll let you know when we get our star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
